A pedestrian who stepped out of a stalled vehicle was hit and killed on northbound Interstate 77 around 5 a.m. Tuesday, causing all lanes to be blocked off for four hours.

Charlotte TV station WSOC identified the pedestrian as Brent Dillard. The driver of a semi-truck told troopers that Dillard parked his truck on the shoulder of Interstate 77 near Clanton Road, got out of his truck and stepped in front of the tractor-trailer, WSOC reported.

The incident happened about 100 yards south of the Clanton Road exit.
