Middle school student rescued after getting stuck in a drain pipe

A student at Ridge Road Middle School in north Charlotte was rescued after getting stuck in a drain pipe on Friday afternoon, a school official said.

The student got stuck in the pipe on the athletic field during field day, assistant principal Tomica Wright said in a phone message to parents. Initial reports indicated the child was 10 feet below ground.

“Fire and Medic responded immediately to help the student to safety,” Wright said. “The student was alert with no apparent serious injuries,” but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools issued a statement thanking MEDIC and Charlotte firefighters “for their immediate response and assistance.”

Ridge Road Middle is on Highland Creek Parkway.
