A suspect is in custody after Davidson police responded Thursday evening to a sexual assault with an attempted rape at Fisher Farm Park in a rural corner of northern Mecklenburg County.
The victim and suspect knew each other, the town said in an email to residents. The suspect’s name was not released Thursday night.
Davidson officials referred questions Friday to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, which is leading the investigation under an agreement for police jurisdiction outside the town limits. CMPD has not responded to Observer questions.
The 200-acre Fisher Farm Park is in a rural area off Shearer Road. It’s popular with mountain bikers and dog walkers.
“We had to ask many park visitors, including mountain bikers and dog walkers, to leave Fisher Farm while we got the situation under control and began conducting our investigation,” police Chief Jeanne Miller said in a statement to town residents.
The park was closed Thursday, following the report at 6:20 p.m., but was expected to reopen early Friday.
