Three people were arrested after leading police on a chase through Charlotte in a stolen car Friday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said they identified a stolen Honda Accord at Albemarle and N. Sharon Amity Road at 11:21 a.m. Friday, and tried to stop it.

The driver backed the stolen car into an officer’s door when police tried to stop them, striking the officer. The driver and two others in the car then drove away. Officers requested help from the department’s aviation unit, but did not chase the car, police said.

Police said the stolen car later entered heavy traffic and had to stop. The suspects attempted to put the car in reverse to exit traffic, but struck an unmarked police car that was behind them. Officers then pursued the car on to Barcliff Drive, where the car hit a building, police said.

The suspects then abandoned the car and tried to escape on foot, but were taken into custody after a short chase.

No officers were injured in either of the pursuits.

Police have not identified the three people involved and have not identified any possible charges.
