One person dead after two motorcycles collide in Lancaster

One person is dead after two motorcycles collided at a Lancaster intersection Thursday evening, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

One of the motorcyclists died at the scene, according to a written statement by Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Jennifer Collins.

The other rider, 32-year-old Justin Ellis of Lancaster, was transported to Springs Memorial Hospital and later to Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, Collins said.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Providence Road and Knotty Pine Drive, said Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the highway patrol.

The deceased motorcyclist was riding a 1998 Harley Davidson and was not wearing a helmet, Rhyne said. Ellis was riding a 2006 Suzuki and was wearing a helmet when the two bikes collided, Ryne said.

The Lancaster County coroner will release the name of the deceased rider after notifying the family, Collins said. An autopsy is scheduled for today, she said.

The accident is under investigation, Rhyne said.
