8-year-old girl dies after bullet fired in parking lot hits her on living room sofa

An 8-year-old girl from Shelby was killed early Sunday when a bullet fired near an apartment traveled through a window into a livingroom and hit her in the head.

The incident happened in Gaffney, South Carolina, and the girl was identified as Kamryn Montara Lamya Bradley of Victory Lane in Shelby. Investigators say the gunfire was gang related and the girl was not the intended target.

The girl was struck about 1:05 a.m. Sunday, after several shots were fired outside an apartment on West Buford Street, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

“The victim was seated on a sofa in the apartment when the bullet penetrated the window and struck her in the head,” said Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler, adding that she died 90 minutes later at a Gaffney area hospital.

“This is another tragic, senseless loss of life at the hands of gang related activity, this time an 8-year-old child. It has to stop.”
