Traffic in the University City area of north Charlotte will balloon Tuesday morning because of the start of day classes at UNC Charlotte.
Classes start at 8 a.m., meaning the 90 minutes before will be a problem for motorists going to and from work in that area.
Adding to the traffic will be the increased number of pedestrians.
UNC Charlotte has an enrollment of 28,721 students from 47 states and 85 counties. Only about 5,400 of them live on campus, so the rest are commuting or walking.
Next week, the city will see even more congestion because of the start of classes at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools on Aug. 28.
