One person was shot and injured Saturday night during a party near Freedom Drive and Interstate 85 – the second time in seven months a raucous party in that area ended violently.
The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. on Lynn Street, in an apartment complex near Thomasboro Academy, police said.
Police have not identified the victim, who investigators said was shot in the wrist and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. No one else was injured. Police have also not released any details about the suspected shooter.
Neighbors who didn’t want their names used because a shooter has not been arrested told the Observer they heard several shots before midnight, then saw police cars and an ambulance.
Seven months ago, police say, a man was killed on nearby Major Street during a party at a liquor house – a party that charges for admission and drinks but skirts laws associated with alcohol sales.
In that July 2014 incident, police said, a fight broke out about 4 a.m. and shots were exchanged outside, in front of a nearby house. When the gunfire ended, Rashad Porter, 27, lay dying on the ground. No one was ever charged in the shooting.
