The American Diabetes Association’s magazine has named former Charlotte broadcaster Stacey Simms as one of its 12 people to know for 2017.

Simms, who has worked as a health reporter for WBTV and as a morning anchor for WBT-AM, is host of Diabetes Connections, a weekly podcast that aims to educate and inspire about diabetes with a focus on type 1. Simms’ son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just before he turned 2 in 2006.

The magazine, Diabetes Forecast, calls the list “The Movers, Shakers, and Game Changers in the Diabetes World.”

“Stacey has done a wonderful job in the diabetes world to make those connections and to forge those bonds,” Diabetes Forecast editor Kelly Rawlings said in a statement.
