A mail carrier was seriously injured in a shooting Thursday afternoon in southwest Charlotte, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Archer Avenue, Medic said. The mail carrier was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Medic said.

Family identified him as Edward McDaniel, Observer news partner WBTV reported.

McDaniel was on his shift when he was shot, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

He was in an argument with an unknown person when he was shot, police said.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting was one of two in Charlotte on Thursday afternoon.

A man was seriously injured in a shooting during a robbery in the University City area. The shooting happened around 12:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of Bonnie Lane, police said. Several media outlets reported the victim is a UNC Charlotte student. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made.
