A woman was killed early Friday in an apartment in the Ayrsley development off Interstate 485 near South Tryon Street, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said.

Friday evening authorities identified her as Jeannine Shante Skinner, 35. There was no word yet how she was killed.

Her body was found at 11:37 a.m. after police were called to do a welfare check in the 9300 block of Kings Parade Boulevard.

When they got there, officers found “a female victim with obvious trauma inside of the apartment.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial information indicates the incident is possibly domestic related, and the victim and suspect are known to one another, police said. A suspect was not in custody Friday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred in the Arysley development, near the intersection of Interstate 485 and South Tryon Street. The development includes hotels, restaurants and a movie theater

Police have investigated two homicides this year within five miles of Kings Parade Boulevard, records show.

The area is also where a Charlotte Uber driver left his home and was later killed. Police found the body of Mario Medina-Chevez this summer, tied up and beaten.

Last year, CMPD responded to three aggravated assaults, nine robberies and one homicide within a half mile of Kings Parade Boulevard, records show. Most took place at retail outlets, such as drug or department stores.
