One lane of Westinghouse Boulevard will be closed until about 8 a.m. Monday because of a crash early Sunday, the Observer’s news partner WBTV reported.

A U.S. mail truck driver crashed a tractor-trailer at about 6:30 a.m. on Westinghouse Boulevard eastbound near Interstate 77, WBTV reported. The driver was ejected from the truck and has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Citing police, WSOC reported that the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the truck went off the road and down an embankment.

The U.S. Postal Service is retrieving packages from the scene of the crash so they can still reach their destinations, WBTV reported.

One lane will be shut down until Monday because workers have to remove part of the guard rail to extract the truck, WBTV reported.
