A cop walked into a gas station – just in time to interrupt an armed robbery

Early Sunday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer K.L. Woolcock stopped at a Circle K gas station in northeast Charlotte. He didn’t know there was a robbery in progress.

The station’s clerk had been working that morning when a man with a gun walked in, demanded money and forced her into the back office, police said.

When the clerk heard someone at the door, she walked out of the back office, told Woolcock what was going on and ran out of the store.

Woolcock yelled at the man to come out of the back office and called for backup, police said.

Ronald Lynch Jr., 39, followed Woolcock’s orders and was arrested. Police found a gun in the back office of the Circle K, which is near the intersection of Mallard Creek Road and Prosperity Church Road.

Lynch has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.
