Charlotte police release identity of man killed by light-rail train

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Monday released the identity of a man who was hit and killed by the Lynx light rail train Saturday night.

Police said Laurence Burton Gray, 60, of Charlotte, died after the incident near the intersection of South Boulevard and Clanton Road. On Monday, police said the case remains under investigation.

The cross bars that drop before a train passed were down, but Gray stepped under them, police have said. Gray was pinned under an outbound train just before 7:30 p.m. and died at Carolinas Medical Center, police said. Police said they believe Gray had been drinking alcohol.

No one on the train was hurt, police said.
