How'd they do? Here are Boston Marathon results for 150+ Charlotte-area runners. | Charlotte Observer

It was great marathon weather in Charlotte on Monday: cool, dry, a little bit cloudy.

On the other hand, up in Massachusetts ...... more than 150 runners from the Charlotte area battled terrible conditions — pouring rain, bitter cold and a headwind pretty much the entire way — at the 122nd edition of the Boston Marathon. It was some of the harshest weather runners had faced at the prestigious event in recent memory.

Leading the pack of locals in Boston on Monday was Dylan Lowry, 26, who finished in 2 hours, 32 minutes and 50 seconds; Lowry ran in college for the University of Albany and now calls Concord home. Charlotte's Amelia Shea was fastest on the women's side, clocking in at 3:03:49; the 27-year-old has a competitive swimming background and didn't start getting into running until after she graduated from the University of Florida.

Huntersville and Mooresville sent the youngest runners from the area to the race (Brooke Schroeder and Amelia Zwiener, both 21, finished in 3:24:46 and 3:37:46, respectively), while Hubert Lambert of Lincolnton was the area's oldest participant at 78 (he crossed the line in 6:55:58).

Of course, the big national story of the day was the victory in the elite women's race by Desiree Linden, who finished in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 53 seconds to become the first American woman to win the marathon since Lisa Larden Weidenbach in 1985.

To give you some sense of how tough the conditions were on the roads from Hopkinton to downtown Boston, Linden's winning time was 17 minutes slower than she ran on the same course in 2011, when she finished as the runner-up by just two seconds.
