A motorcycle rider was killed in a crash around noon Wednesday near Oakdale Elementary School in northwest Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
The motorcycle rider, 18-year-old Daniel Hugh Dockery II, passed a slower-moving car and lost control as he was re-entering a lane on Oakdale Road, police said. Dockery ran off the road, hit trees and fell off the motorcycle, police said.
He was wearing a helmet.
Dockery was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:30 p.m., police said.

The motorcycle had been reported stolen around 9:35 a.m., police said.
"It is unknown if (Dockery) stole the motorcycle or received it from another person," a CMPD press release said.
Dockery did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his license, police said. That section of Oakdale Road was marked for no passing, and police said speed was a factor in the crash.
The last motorcyclist to die in a Charlotte crash was Steven Lamont McKinney, 38. He was killed in July 2017 on Mount Holly Road.
