A portion of a northwest Charlotte road was closed for a few hours Friday morning because of a dead horse.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police tweeted just before 6 a.m. that the dead animal was blocking the 1100 block of Rhyne Road.

The road was cleared shortly before 8 a.m., police said.

Officials were able to remove the horse, despite having difficulties, Observer news partner WBTV reported.

There were no details on where the horse came from or how it died.
