Minivan collides with dump truck in deadly crash on Charlotte interstate

A man was killed in a crash Wednesday morning, after his minivan collided with a dump truck in the University City area of northeast Charlotte.

The wreck happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Interstate 485 near exit 30, according to the Highway Patrol.

Crews were in the area to resurface the road on the interstate, officials said. A dump truck was traveling on the outer loop of the interstate, when the minivan crashed into it.

The driver of the minivan, 31-year-old Joel Flowers, died on impact, according to the Highway Patrol.

All lanes of the interstate were closed near University City Boulevard, but reopened shortly after 6 a.m., Observer news partner WBTV reported.
