They died when their car slammed into a tractor-trailer. Now we know their names.

A Tuesday morning crash near Interstate 485 killed a 29-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Thursday.

The man, Anoulame J. Thayorath, drove a Nissan Murano through a red light at the West W.T. Harris Boulevard exit, and the car was hit by a tractor-trailer, police said.

Thayorath and his passenger, Amber Nicole Edwards, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, Tracy Stephan Green, was not intoxicated and has not been charged with a crime, police said.

Edwards had two children, according to her obituary. She was from Gaston County.

Thayorath had family in Rhode Island and went by the name Joy, according to social media posts.
