Rowan County authorities have charged a registered sex offender with visiting a local park in violation of state law.
Leonard Terry Smith Jr., 43, of Salisbury was charged with a felony count under a state law that prohibits sex offenders from being in public places used by children.
Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies were called to Ellis Park in Salisbury on Saturday. Park employees said several visitors had complained about a man “who seemed to be acting strangely” in the park.
One visitor identified the man as Smith.
