All I-77 lanes now open hours after 1 person dies in wreck in southwest Charlotte

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 77 in southwest Charlotte on Monday morning, according to reports.

The timing of the wreck between Woodlawn and Tyvola roads is unclear, but Mecklenburg EMS Agency confirmed that one person died at the scene around 11:30 a.m. on its Twitter account. At least one person suffered life-threatening injuries, Medic said.

Reports by multiple news outlets show an overturned tractor-trailer along the I-77 median.

Six vehicles were involved in the crash, the North Carolina Highway Patrol told Observer news partner WBTV.

All northbound lanes and the left two southbound lanes were closed at Exit 5 (Tyvola Road), the NC. Department of Transportation posted on its website. By mid-afternoon, the southbound lanes reopened. The northbound lanes reopen by 5:30 p.m., according to NCDOT’s DriveNC.gov website.
