Charlotte-Mecklenburg police will host a “House of Worship Safety Seminar” July 31, the department announced Wednesday.
The seminar will be threefold and address personal safety, building security and active shooter responses, said Chris Kopp, crime prevention specialist with CMPD.
Two three-hour sessions, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., will be at the Charlotte Police and Fire Training Academy on Shopton Road.
“We want to ease the fears of the public and let them know that not all places of worship should be a place to be worried to attend anymore,” he said.

Kopp said Mecklenburg County has more than 850 houses of worship, but not all have likely been registered in the database.
