More than an inch of rain fell in some parts of the Charlotte area over the past 24 hours, according to U.S. Geological Survey rain gauges.
Almost an inch of rain was recorded at Freedom Park, with 1.22 inches falling at the Rocky River Waste Water Treatment Plant in Concord.
The N.C. Department Transportation facility in Matthews recorded 1.55 inches of rain in the past 24 hours and 5.5 inches in the past two days.
Communities that could experience flooding include Indian Trail, Monroe, Weddington, Stallings, Unionville, Lake Park, Hemby Bridge, New Salem and Fairview.
The rainfall remains much needed in the area. Severe drought has expanded in the Charlotte region this month to include much of Mecklenburg, Union and Catawba counties, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
