The body of a man who apparently drowned in Lake Wylie on Monday was recovered Tuesday morning, according to Tega Cay Police.
The victim’s identity will be released by the York County Coroner’s Office.
The call came in just before 3 p.m. at Windjammer Park in Tega Cay. People were swimming and an 18-year-old male didn’t come up. He was found “at the approximate location where he was reported to be,” Maj. David Nelson, a Tega Cay Police spokesman, said Tuesday.
The search was temporarily called off Monday night because of the threat of inclement weather and resumed Tuesday morning.
It appears the teen tried to swim out to an island off Windjammer Park and went under strong current.
This is the fifth drowning on Lake Wylie since June.
