Residents and staff at a southeast Charlotte retirement center were evacuated Thursday night after a fire broke out in one of the buildings.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. at the Lawyer’s Glen Retirement Living Center on Lawyers Glen Drive. Officials say the fire started in the boiler room in one of the units.
Firefighters reported seeing smoke upon arrival. They said a building was evacuated and that about 50 residents were sent to the center's club house. They added that the residents may have to spend the night secondary location.
WBTV was at the scene where firefighters and EMS had the road roped off at Cinnamon Circle.

There is no word on damages to the building, but officials say no injuries were reported.
