Police ID driver killed in Pineville wreck

Pineville police have identified the driver killed in Tuesday’s single-vehicle wreck near Carolina Place Mall as Mark Bradford, 34, of Champaign, Ill.

Bradford was staying in Pineville on a business trip, police said.

He was driving a four-door white Kia Sportage when the vehicle crashed in the 9900 block of Leitner Drive, off Pineville-Matthews Road, police said. The wreck happened about 12:30 a.m.

The car was charred, wedged up against a tree, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

Bradford suffered fatal blunt force trauma injuries to his chest, and speed may have contributed to the wreck, police said. Toxicology results are pending, police Lt. S.C. Copley said.
