CHAPEL HILL

Police at the University of North Carolina said they were investigating an anonymous online posting that appeared to threaten unspecified violence at a certain time Tuesday, but the campus remained open.

“Early Tuesday morning, UNC Public Safety became aware of an anonymous online posting which could be considered a threat against the campus community. UNC Public Safety is taking the posting seriously and taking appropriate measures to keep the campus safe. The posting did not indicate any specific campus location or means of violence—it only warned against being on campus at 9:49 a.m. today,” a posting to the university community said.

Officials did not say where the posting occurred.

The time came and passed with no report of incidents.
