University of North Carolina officials cleared a campus-wide alert Wednesday morning after campus and town police were unable to find an armed man who had been reported to be on the campus.

The university sounded campus sirens shortly before 9 a.m. and issued a warning to the university community, telling people to shelter in place, meaning they were to stay where they were when the alrt went out. The all-clear was issued at 9:20 a.m.
Officials said they had received a report of an armed man near Venable Hall and the campus ROTC offices.

Police shut down roads in the area and were searching.
Officials sounded campus warning sirens and sent alerts at 8:53 a.m.
