A Kings Mountain man making a routine trip to the gas station wound up with a little something extra — a $1 million winning lottery ticket.
Harvey Lawson bought a $10 “Millionaire 7’s” instant ticket from the Silver Express shop on East King Street in Kings Mountain on Thursday, officials with the North Carolina Education Lottery said Saturday.
Lawson, a superintendent with a weaving and manufacturing company, said he “almost fell under the truck” when he saw he won the top prize.
The odds of winning $1 million in that game are 1 in 960,000, according to the lottery.

Lawson said he and his fiancee plan to take a dream trip to Australia with some of the winnings.
A $1 million prize can be claimed as an annuity of $50,000 a year for 20 years or as a lump sum of $600,000. On Friday, Lawson chose the cash option, which was worth $415, 503 after required state and federal taxes were withheld.
