Chester County girl dies in crash one day after 17th birthday

The passenger killed in a Friday wreck in Great Falls had just turned 17 the day before the crash, according to the Chester County Coroner’s Office.

Lindsey Nease, of Dewitt Road in Blackstock, was the passenger in a southbound 2004 Pontiac that exited the right side of S.C. 901 about five miles south of Great Falls, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The 21-year-old driver struck a fence and then a utility pole.

Troopers say the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. It’s not known if Nease was wearing a seat belt.

Nease was taken by ambulance to Springs Memorial Hospital and then to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where she died Saturday morning, according to the Highway Patrol.

Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said Nease died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

This is the second Chester County teenager to die this month in a traffic collision.

On Dec. 1, Lewisville High senior William Cory Abernathy, 17, died after his truck crashed into a tree in Richburg.
