A Stanley woman has been charged with felony child abuse after authorities discovered her 14-month-old son has a fractured skull and leg.

Mary Ann Carter, 43, of Stanley was taken into custody April 1 and is being held with bond set at $100,000.

An anonymous report to the Lincoln County Department of Social Services about the child’s leg injury led deputies to the case, according to a report from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, authorities learned the child also had bruises and other injuries. A fractured skull and brain bleed were diagnosed when the child was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital, according to the report.

The child has been released from the hospital and is in foster care.
