The funeral procession for fallen Pineville volunteer firefighter Richard Sheltra is expected to move along Park Road midmorning Saturday, following a route from Pineville to south Charlotte.

The procession will likely interrupt travel on Park Road as the roughly 3.5-mile procession moves from McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, at 10500 Park Road, to Forest Hill Church, 7224 Park Road, in south Charlotte.

Sheltra’s funeral will be at noon at the church, with the procession roughly an hour earlier. The service is open to the public.

The procession is being planned by the Pineville Police Department and Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s office, which means both agencies could provide escorts.

Traffic in the neighborhoods surrounding the church is already expected to be heavier than usual because of competition for the Wells Fargo golf championship this week.

The competition will be less than 3 miles from the church at Quail Hollow Club, 3700 Gleneagles Road. The competition is expected to bring more than 30,000 visitors daily through May 8.
