A driver who crashed and died on the bridge at Interstate 77 Exit 28 in Cornelius this week might have suffered a medical emergency, police said.

Donna Reynolds, 61, of Mooresville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Reynolds was traveling on the I-77 southbound ramp about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when her car hit the center wall on the Catawba Avenue diverging diamond bridge.

No one else was in the car, police said, and no other vehicles were involved.

Police have not released what medical emergency they believe Reynolds suffered.

Reynolds worked at American Tire Distributors in Huntersville and belonged to Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville.

She loved to watch football on TV, attended every Carolina Panthers home game and enjoyed being with her grandchildren, according to her obituary.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at her home, with the Rev. Brett West officiating.
