National Night Out events

Meet your neighbors and stand up for public safety during National Night Out on Tuesday.

Matt Peskin of Pennsylvania started the event 25 years ago to fight crime by opening communication between residents and police. Here are some local Night Out events being held:

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation will join the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Arbor Glen Outreach Center, 1520 Clanton Road.

The free event will include food, music, a dance contest and prizes. For more information on participating neighborhoods, visit www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/_News/Jul/.

The Meadowbrook Neighborhood Watch Association will have a block party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 6149 Donna Drive. The hosts will also be sponsoring a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank and ask that attendees bring canned goods.

For more information, call 704-713-4680.

The Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association will begin its celebration at Kilgo Methodist Church at 6 p.m. There will be a picnic, door prizes, and visits from police and the fire department.
