Police say robbery was behind the beating death of a 63-year-old man whose body was found in his east Charlotte home.
Officers found Conley Taft Sparks dead in his Burner Drive home Thursday morning. Sparks' boss grew concerned when he didn't show up at work and called 911.
Officers say Sparks had suffered severe trauma when they found him in his one-story home around 11:30 a.m., but wouldn't elaborate on the condition of the body. The Medical Examiner will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of death.
Officers charged Christopher Lee Hicks, 23, with murder after searching for him for several hours. Police say the two men knew each other from the neighborhood.

Investigators spent several hours inside the home and canvassing the neighborhood and removed several bags of evidence from inside. The house is just off Central Avenue, near Eastway Drive.
