3 armed robberies at victims' homes

Matthews and Charlotte police are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings after three armed robberies at victims' homes.

Two incidents were in Matthews, and one in Charlotte.

The first took place Friday, when two men entered a home in the Hampton Green neighborhood in Matthews and held a gun to residents and guests as they took valuables.

The second incident occurred late Tuesday in the Habersham neighborhood off Idlewild Road in Matthews. Police say the victim was in his driveway when three men pulled up and forced the victim into his home where he and his wife were held at gunpoint while they were robbed.

The suspects took the victims' car, which was later recovered in Charlotte.

Both Matthews incidents are similar to a third in Charlotte where a man was carjacked Tuesday night in his driveway in the Foxcroft neighborhood.

The victim had just pulled into his driveway on Sedley Road about 9:20 p.m. when three armed men wearing masks forced him to the ground, took his wallet and keys – then his car.

No one was injured in any of the incidents, but police are investigating to see if all three are related.

Police say the suspects may be targeting residents, and they urge everyone to pay attention to surroundings and lock homes and vehicles at all times.

Report any suspicious people or vehicles – or information on the three armed robberies – to Matthews police at 704-847-4069. In Charlotte, call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
