CD, DVD factory is closing in Cleveland County

Entertainment Distribution Company has announced plans to shut down its Cleveland County facility, resulting in the loss of more than 400 jobs. The shutdown arises from the pending sale of the company to Sony DADC Inc., the company said. The CD and DVD plant is on N.C. 29 between Kings Mountain and Grover.

City leaders have approved more visible signage on Time-Warner Cable Arena. A proposed 36,250-square-foot, lighted roof sign initially caused wariness among Charlotte City Council members. But the council approved the signage as long as reflective paint, digital signs and LED color-changing lights are not used. Councilman Andy Dulin cast the sole vote against the proposal.

State troopers are trying to identify a man who was found dead early Sunday on southbound Interstate 85 near the Kings Mountain exit.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is calling the incident a hit-and-run. Investigators believe an assault took place prior to the hit-and-run, said Sgt. Stephen Pace. He declined to provide other details .
