You did a remarkable thing this summer. You gave 138 children an experience that will shape their lives.
I personally want to thank you for contributing to The Summer Camp Fund, an initiative the Observer started with the nonprofit Partners in Out-of-School Time. We were eager to help fill a void in this difficult economy, when parents find themselves wanting so much for their children and yet pressed in their finances. You joined us and gave more than we expected.
You have given children opportunities to ride horses, to swim and hike and to make new friends. You have given them memories.
And you have given some relief to parents like Julia Willett, mother to 9-year-old Isaac, who went to camp for the first time this past summer. “I've always wanted him to do that sort of thing,” she told our reporter Celeste Smith. “We've always wished for that opportunity.”
Thank you again for making lots of wishes come true.
