Traffic congestion is building on the Charlotte area’s major roads Friday morning, and traffic is slowing.
The biggest problem at 7:30 a.m. is on southbound Interstate 77, with a collision near Clanton Road. That is causing backups to near uptown.
Another wreck causing slowdowns is on East 3rd Street at Charlottetowne Avenue, in the area near CPCC’s Central Campus.

I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
I-77 southbound, south Charlotte ... Collision blocking the right lane near Clanton Road; traffic moving 15-25 mph from uptown to the wreck scene.
East 3rd and Charlottetowne Avenue ... Collision with injuries; moderate to heavy delays.
