Charlotte snow: Help us keep track of snow totals

The Charlotte region could see between four and 10 inches of snow Wednesday as a winter storm barrels toward the Carolinas. We want to see how much snow is in your neighborhood. And we need your help.

If you can, break out your camera and a ruler or yardstick to show us how much snow has fallen where you live or work.

Send photo, snowfall amount and the time and location (block number and street name and city) to photos@charlotteobserver.com

Tips for measuring snow (modified slightly from the National Weather Service)

1. Measure where the snow is near its average depth: a flat open area, away from buildings and trees.

2. Take several measurements.

3. Good surfaces to measure on:* a white plastic cutting board, placed before the snowfall began* a wood deck, away from a house* a picnic table or other table in an open area* a completely cooled vehicle hood
