Today’s traffic: I-77 reopened in Statesville

Motorists headed southbound on Interstate 77 in the Huntersville area will have to deal with slowdowns at 8 a.m.

Authorities report a car fire on the ramp from southbound I-77 to Gilead Road. That is Exit 23, and the incident is causing backups on southbound I-77.

An earlier problem on I-77 in Statesville has been cleared. The N.C. Highway Patrol had closed I-77 in both directions between mile markers 49 and 51 around 6:30 a.m. for what was described as a “police situation.” That situation ended about 7:15 a.m., and the road was reopened.
