Grill masters were in their second day of smoking 7,000 pounds of pork in more than a dozen cookers as a fundraiser for the troop, sponsored by Providence United Methodist Church.
Proceeds from the sale of the barbecue go to the troop’s summer camp fund and also pays for the year’s scouting activities for about 65 boys.
“This is the largest cook we’ve ever done,” said Ben House, Troop 11 scoutmaster. “We’re cooking 7,000 pounds this year.”
Barbecue plates including Brunswick stew, beans and slaw sell for $9 and 1 pound of the pork goes for $10. Food can be purchased Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 2810 Providence Road in Charlotte.
