A pedestrian and her 15-month-old son were killed this morning after being struck by a vehicle in Kings Mountain.
The two were identified as Clarissa Ussery, 30, and Kadence Clemons.
Kings Mountain Police responded the call at 4:56 a.m. this morning on North Cansler Street at Barnette Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers found that the two had been struck by a vehicle driven by Danny Cooke of Kings Mountain, according to Captain J.H. Tessneer of Kings Mountain Police.
Neighbors heard the impact and ran to help but say nothing could be done, WBTV reported. Cooke stayed at the scene and called 911.
Chavis Clemons of Charlotte, the brother of the victim, said it is a tragedy for everyone, according to WBTV. "It was just an accident and very unreal to us," he said. Chavis said he held no ill will against the driver and said he was thinking about him and his family too.
No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still looking into why Ussery was walking with her child at that time.
