Charlotte 26th for solar power, report says

Charlotte ranks 26th in the nation for its solar-energy capacity, according to a report released Thursday by the Environment North Carolina Research & Policy Center.

The U.S. has 200 times the solar-energy capacity it had in 2002, the report said. Raleigh ranked 19th among the top 20 cities in the nation for its 12 megawatts of solar power at the end of 2013.

Charlotte had 6 megawatts of solar capacity, the report said. Environment North Carolina released the report at Charlotte’s Discovery Place science center, which has solar arrays. Bruce Henderson
