Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a man with firing a rifle in front of a business on Eastway Drive Friday.
Ahmed Anwar Ismail, 33, was charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
At 1 p.m. Friday, police responded to a call about shots being fired on Eastway Drive. When they arrived they found the building was locked, but appeared to be potentially occupied.
Officers closed Eastway Drive at Central Avenue as a precaution and members of the SWAT team and SWAT negotiators responded to the scene.

Police learned the business owners were at another location. When an employee arrived and unlocked the business officers didn’t find anybody inside.
Authorities determined an employee had fired a rifle in front of the business, which police did not identify. There were no injuries.
