Many Americans gathered Thursday to mark the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer. The estimated 40,000 events included nearly 20 in the Charlotte area, with mostly Christians praying together in government buildings, at YMCAs and in churches. In Washington, Anne Graham Lotz – a Raleigh-based evangelist and this year’s honorary chair of the National Day of Prayer – read from the Bible and called for repentance during an event at the Cannon House Office Building that drew members of Congress.
