Elite and recreational standup paddleboard racers will compete in respective events on Lake Norman Saturday morning to benefit the non-profit Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation.
Hosted by Aloha Paddle & Surf Inc. at Port City Club in Cornelius, “Stand Up for the Catawba” will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events also will benefit the non-profit Surfrider Foundation dedicated to protecting oceans and beaches.
Festivities begin with a meet-and-greet from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and a night paddle from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Saturday’s elite and recreational races are open to the public and begin after an 8 a.m. safety meeting. The Elite race is sanctioned by the World Paddleboard Association.
