A no-swim advisory remained in effect Friday in a Lake Norman cove where 20,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled from a malfunctioning pump station on Wednesday.
The sewage entered the cove at about 6 p.m. in the Lakewood subdivision in eastern Lincoln County, said Chris Henderson of Lincoln County Public Works. The discharge lasted about 45 minutes, he said. The pump station is in the 4400 block of Burton Lane in Denver, N.C.
The station was repaired and put back into service, but the no-swim advisory issued by the Lincoln County Health Department remains in effect until further notice.
Lincoln County Public Works will continue testing the affected area until samples return to normal levels in accordance with N.C. Department of Environmental Quality standards, county officials said.
