Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigating shooting deaths early Saturday

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was busy dealing with two separate homicide investigations Saturday.

At 3:36 a.m. Saturday, authorities responded to the 800 block of High Meadow Lane and found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, Gary Lane Jr., 36, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police said an earlier altercation with someone the victim knew led to the shooting. According to police, that person, Loren Funches, 31, was detained and is cooperating with authorities. They said the case will be presented to the Mecklenburg District Attorney’s Office for the determination of any charges.

Police answered another call at 4:16 a.m. to the 6900 block of Hidden Forest Drive and found a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name wasn’t released pending notification of the family.

Police said the victim and people he knew had an altercation Friday evening. The suspects then drove to where the victim was staying to continue the argument, police said.

According to authorities, one of the suspects then shot the victim and the suspects left in a vehicle.

Police canvassed the area Saturday looking for witnesses.

Anyone with information about the cases should call 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
