Uptown roads closing for Speed Street

A number of Charlotte’s uptown streets are closed through early Sunday for the three-day Coca-Cola Speed Street festival.

Speed Street begins Thursday and continues through Saturday night, offering a variety of live concerts, food and NASCAR-related attractions. Speed Street is held in conjunction with the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Organizers expect about 400,000 visitors to uptown during Speed Street.

Roads will be reopened by 8 a.m. Sunday.

These road closures began Wednesday:

TRYON STREET

Curb lanes between Fifth and Trade streets.

From Trade Street to Fourth Street.

From Fourth Street to Third Street.

From Third Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

From Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Stonewall Street.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. BOULEVARD

From College Street to Caldwell Street (lanes remain open for parking deck access)

Westbound lane, between Caldwell Street and Davidson Street.

BREVARD STREET

From Third Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (one lane open, for access to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard)

From Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Stonewall Street.

These road closures begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. They will be open only from 6-9:30 a.m. Friday during rush hour

Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from Church Street to College Street.

Third Street, between Church and College streets.

Fourth Street, between Church and College streets.
